Historic Racing Aston Martin
We were delighted when one of our clients purchased a disassembled Aston Martin DBR4/250 Grand Prix Car & asked us to rebuild it with a view to racing it with The Vintage Sports Car Club, Historic Grand Prix Cars Association and at invitation events...
Four Aston Martin DBR4/250 Cars were laid down by “The Works” & although the project started in 1957, the first cars did not race until 1959, driven by Roy Salvadori & Carroll Shelby…………..Beautiful looking cars but being front-engined in 1959, rapidly obsolete………The last of The British Front – Engined Grand Prix cars.
The project presents many challenges – The car had been completely dismantled to the point where only “Large” items such as the chassis & transaxle remained intact, everything else had been taken right down to the last needle roller bearing. Already we have machined a majority of the “Bottom end” items of the engine, rebuilt the (Very Rare) David Brown transaxle & cut one front corner from the chassis & replaced it (Accident –Damaged). All of the body panels have been brought into shape & offered up to the repaired chassis frame & then prepared , having received their first coats of paint (Ultimatelty “Aston Martin Racing Green”).
A number of repairs have been carried out to the cylinder head & new timing gears made. We completed the process of “Trial building” the front & rear suspension to ensure that all sub-assemblies fit the chassis & also that suspension geometry is correct. More new updates followed and track testing carried out in 2003.
The car having received it's FIA HTP, took to the circuits of Europe and as can be seen (in the slideshow above) immediately started winning awards. The restoration of the car caused great interest and the project was shortlisted in 2004 for 'The Restoration of the Year' at the Historic Motorsports Show.
We are also working on road-going Aston Martin cars with DB5 & DB6 models currently in the workshop………………
